My favourite things
February 9, 2010 – 11:10 am
The school asked us to bring a photo for the “Tell us about you wall”. A photo of favourite places, pets, or something special to the kid. Mom got me to gather some of my most favourite toys and took a photo of me with them. Then she printed it out on photo paper and this morning I gave it to my teacher. This is the photo but Mom has cut me out from the photo for this blog
That’s my dog Woofie (beige one) and Bingo (fluffy one).
Then there is a red wind up truck to the far left and the rest are my trains, helicopter and bus from the Thomas and Friends range.
Yup I don’t have dollies because I do not like dolls.

My name on leaves
February 4, 2010 – 6:05 pm

After my swimming lesson today, we went to borrow some books at the Library. Mom was looking at the colourful decorated wall when she spotted my name on several paper leaves. We think they put up names of kids each time they have borrowed five books – this is to encourage kids to read more books. I have actually borrowed more than 4 leaves worth of books (20 books) since this programme started sometime in December last year but Mom had been borrowing under her library card instead of mine so I guess we will use my own library card next time

My friend, M
February 3, 2010 – 4:38 pmI played a lot with my friend, M after our Library session today. Eventhough I have known M for almost 6 months at the Library sessions, it wasn’t until the past few meetings that we began to play and talk more together. Mom and M’s mommy think me and M have formed a close friendship. Similarities between M and me are:
- We’re both girls
- We’re almost the same height
- We’re almost the same age, me being about 8 months younger but we will both start public schools next year (although we will be in different schools)
- We both enjoy the Library sessions very much
- We both love books
- We both have swimming lessons at the same centre (but we’re on different days)
- Cantonese is our mother tongue although I don’t speak nor understand it. M understands but does not speak it, so that makes her kinda same like me too, hehe
- We are both of Chinese ethnicity although our Moms are from different countries (not China).
M’s mommy said too bad we would not be going to the same public school next year
I told Mom that I wanted to play for a loooong time with M because I like her.
* It was the first time ever Mom heard me tell her that I liked playing with someone particular

“Honey, …”
January 30, 2010 – 12:01 amThis is what I had been calling Mom at times whenever I asked her a question. Examples:
“Honey, what is this doing here?”
“Honey, what are you doing?”
“Honey, what is this for?”
and so on.
Mom asked why I started calling her “Honey” and I told her that’s what Dad calls her. Mom thinks it is funny why I only called her “Honey” when I asked a question and she came to the theory that it’s because Dad only talks to Mom when he needed to ask her something. So indirectly, I only use the term “Honey” on Mom only when I ask her something

starfall.com
January 29, 2010 – 1:43 pm
I love this website more than ever before. Other than playing some games there, I learned to tell what letter a word begins with just by listening to the sound.
I actually know what sound each alphabet makes since I was about 22 months old (thanks to Leapfrog DVDs) but never knew how to apply them when given an unfamiliar or new word orally. Now I could get it right most of the time except when it comes to words like “write”, “wrong” (I would think they start with the letter “R”), etc.
I have learned to tell some of the letters a word contains; by listening to the pronunciation. For example, by listening to the word “Letter”, I know it begins with the alphabet “L” and has a “T” and “R” somewhere.
There is a section in starfall.com which teaches me how to read and it usually starts by emphasizing the sound of the first letter in a word. That is how I learned it.
I have yet to understand the use of vowels. Therefore, I am unable to read on my own yet which makes me really frustrated because I have to depend on Mom and Dad to read me. Mom says reading by memory is not really reading. She can’t wait till the day I could read independently because she pities seeing me feeling frustrated.

Swim School – 2nd Term
January 28, 2010 – 1:13 pmThis morning I commenced my second term in swim school. Mom was worried if I would have difficulty in adjusting to the pool since the month long term break just before last Christmas. She was relieved to see me felt very at ease in the pool, better than last term.
After my lesson, I played around in the kiddy pool and saw my friend, Callum. I played with him on the noodle float. We both tried to float on it together and then we rode on the float together too, with our legs touching the bottom of the pool and walked around like that. We had so much fun. Mommy and Callum’s grandma couldn’t help laughing watching us. Too bad mom didn’t capture the moment on camera because she didn’t bring it today. Then Callum had to leave to attend his swim class while I had to go too because mom didn’t want me to play too long in the pool today.

1st and 2nd day at preschool/daycare
January 12, 2010 – 10:44 pmToday was my second day of preschool and I loved it! I would like to go again tomorrow but mommy said I only go on Mondays and Tuesdays
I will have to wait for next week.
Meanwhile there is the weekly hourly story telling, singing and craft session on Wednesdays held at the Library which I had been attending for the past several months, to keep me busy. Then I have my swimming lessons on Thursdays.
Wow looks like I’m a little busy bee

Twinkle Twinkle Tune
January 6, 2010 – 11:10 pmI started playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star fully unassisted on my tiny keyboard, since 2 weeks ago. Dad taught me several times and I learned to play it since then. This is the only tune I am able to play on my own.
